As We Continue to Work
May 7, 2009
Tuesday, we went to the streets of San Antonio again and we fed well over two hundred people. We also sent a couple home…to WEST VIRGINIA! Cynthia, one of our students, was talking with this couple and found out they wanted to go back to their home in Parkersburg, West Virginia. They were here in San Antonio helping the husband’s aging grandparents that died about four months ago. The couple was out of money, and they have been living on the street for three months. I was able to take them to the Greyhound station and get them tickets back to their home. I never thought I would be able to send people back to my home state when I started this! God is pretty cool!
We are getting ready for two teams of people that are coming to the ranch and help us get things rolling for the summer. One group is going to be here for one week, and the other group is going to be here for two. They are going to help us stain builings, fix fences, repair bathrooms, work on landscaping, and of course, help in the street ministry.
It is so exciting to see what God is doing here. Every day is a walk of faith and a test of endurance, but seeing lives changed and Jesus glorified is incredible. If anyone wants to come and help us, give us a call. You can get all of our contact info by going to our website: <a href=”http://www.thegenesis
Street Ministry in San Antonio, TX
April 23, 2009
Welcome to the first blog for Genesis Ministries! We are entering our second summer and God is doing some amazing things. With this blog we want to keep you all posted on what has happened, what is happening, and what we see happening in the future. We would also like to hear from you on what you think, any prayer request you may have, or just to keep in touch! Your prayers and support are essential to continue our outreach.
One of the most recent additions to Genesis Ministries is our weekly outreach to the homeless in San Antonio. Every Tuesday we go to the city, set up tables and chairs, and serve full meals to the homeless. This is all done under the Commerce Street bridge on the city’s west-side. Each week we feed over 200 men, women and children that live under the bridge, along the railroad tracks, and in the homeless shelter.
At the time God led us in this direction we weren’t able to do more than sack lunches, but He quickly supplied enough for us to be able to purchase the food to cook hot meals. God touched a few people’s hearts to support this outreach- even people we had not contacted about the ministry. We can’t take credit for what God is doing. The opportunity has been given to us to be His vessels that He is working through.
Through this, the students in our ministry have begun experiencing what it is to be a servant and see first hand the ministry of Jesus. We also have been able to send 2 people back to their homes with their family, provided clothing, and prayed with people who are lost, hurting, and overcome by bondage. In Matthew 25:40 it says that when we feed, clothe, and care for “the least of these” we are actually ministering to Jesus. It is an incredible priveledge to minister to the homeless each week. Our goal is to find people seperated from their families, spread hope to the hopeless, and bring reconciliation by leading them to the saving grace of Jesus.
